If you are looking for healthy ways to gain weight you need to make sure you are taking in consideration quality of calories – and not just quantity.

If you are eating a bunch of calories but they are from junk food you will play havoc with your anabolic muscle building hormones and you will not gain lean muscle mass – you will gain body fat!

Troy reveals his five key rules for healthy weight gain for skinny guys.

0:48 – Healthy weight gain rule number One: Increase your healthy fats.

Contrary to popular belief, healthy fat does not make you fat. Increasing your intake of healthy fats will increase your body’s natural testosterone levels as well as increasing your heart healthy omegas.

Since healthy fat is 9 calories per gram as opposed to carbs and protein only being 4 calories, increasing your intake of healthy fats is the easiest way to increase your overall calories and gain weight the healthy way.

1:29 – Healthy weight gain rule number two: 1 gram of lean protein per pound of body weight.

Increasing your protein intake is crucial for healthy weight gain as this will be the foundation to lean muscle gains. THe more lean protein you have in your diet the more anabolic muscle building fuel you will have in your body to grow new muscle cells.

2:00 – Healthy weight gain rule number 3: Complex Carbohydrates.

You need healthy carbohydrates in your diet if you want to gain healthy weight. Complex carbohydrates will fill your muscles with glycogen giving you energy during your workouts. Complex carbohydrates will digest slowly as they are higher in fiber and they won’t spike your insulin levels, which are bad for your anabolic hormones.

2:48 – Healthy weight gain rule number 4: All natural supplements.

Don’t fall prey to the supplement industries latest fad supplement. Stick with all natural supplements like whey protein powder, L glutamine, fish oil, creatine and a good multi vitamin.

3:33 – Healthy weight gain rule number 5: No more than a pound a week.

You should weigh yourself once per week, and make sure that you aren’t gaining more than 1 lb per week. If you are gaining more than a lb per week, chances are that you are gaining to much fat. It is really not possible to pack on more than a lb of lean muscle mass per week, so make sure that your weight gain is slow and gradual.
